Mastering my own marketing profile

Why marketing specialists and data-mining experts wrack their brains about who i am an what i need? First of all i call for self-determination. Companies and marketeers should ask me for information instead of generating data out of user behavior.
I want an infrastrucure like trust centers for peronal profiles, maintained by the profile owner. All opt-ins and even enableing of selective data could be managed. -Valhalla

I have no idea how my personal profile looks like in the databases of my insurance, finance institute and amazon.com. This gives a very queasy feeling to me.
