Buy local industry products (Blip)
There is a very appealing logic to buying local products in times of economic woe. I know that accepted economic theory goes against this and insists that it is better to buy international products and keep the trade flows going. I will leave that to others to promote.
I have decided to buy locally produced products if and when possible. This means that I aid the local economy, help create jobs locally, reduce CO2 by avoiding lengthy transport of goods etc.
I will from now on actively look for locally farmed fruit, veg and meat. I will look to buy goods designed and assembled in my country, I will give preference to clothes which are produced here, etc.
I will be realistic about this. I will not refuse to buy something because it was not made here. I will just give preference to those goods which are made locally when given the choice. And if I am not given that choice, I will ask the shop why they don’t stock local products.
I may be a Blip on the map, but the more join in, the bigger that Blip will become.

I am fully aware that today the international interaction of companies, the outsourcing of services and production, the mass-production of products in far away countries are inevitable and make sense in at least some instances. I do not wish to turn back the clock on economic development. Nor do I intend to boycott any of this behaviour.
But, wherever companies find a viable way to farm, produce, design or assemble anything close to where I live, I will reward this by giving preference to their product, if the quality is of an acceptable standard and the price is justified by quality and the fact that I aid a local business and reduce CO2 output.
